Schenna / Scena, Italien
Schenna Resort
A 4-star-superior resort on a south-facing hillside at 500–550 m above Schenna/Scena, roughly a 30-minute walk above Meran, run by the Pföstl and Wörndle families in the third generation. It trades as Schenna Resort S.r.l. / Schenna Resort G.m.b.H. (VAT and tax code IT00850060211, REA BZ 91702), a company constituted in December 1980 and originally registered under the name of its first house, Hotel Schwefelbad. The distinctive feature is that the resort is one business but three houses, and guests are sorted between them by guest type rather than by price. Haus Schwefelbad is the family house, with an adventure water world, a two-storey slide, a children's playroom and holiday-season childcare. Haus Rosengarten — demolished and rebuilt between October 2015 and May 2016 — is the 'Mind & Soul' house for guests aged 14 and over and carries the shared infrastructure: the reception, the fireplace bar, the library, the wine shop, the spa department and spa reception, the hairdresser, the fitness room and the seminar rooms. Hotel Mitterplatt, bought as a guesthouse in 1994 and rebuilt in 2011–12 as a quiet retreat, is the adults-only house from age 16, with its own Olive panorama restaurant, brine pool, sauna and vineyard pavilion. About 109 keys in total across the three. The build history runs continuously from 1966: Alois Pföstl, a painter by trade, bought the Stinkbrunn smallholding in 1966, opened the Pension Etschblick in 1968 and built the Hotel Schwefelbad between 1979 and 1981 with his wife Rosa. Extensions followed in 1990, in 2000 (underground garages, dining room, bar, suites and the rock wine cellar), in 2003 (a third floor of deluxe rooms), in 2004 with the purchase of the neighbouring Hotel Rosengarten, and in 2019 with eight new suites and a new facade at the Schwefelbad. The Schenna Resort brand itself was created in 2006 to present the separate houses as one. The most recent cycle finished in 2025 with the opening of the Restaurant LUMINIS, the Sunset Family suites and the Luxury Pool suites, after two Vineyard Suites at Mitterplatt in 2024. Non-room business is unusually broad for a house this size. The spa is open to non-residents as a day spa daily from 10:00 to 19:00 at €35–154 per person, with a fully published treatment, beauty and hairdressing price list. There are two restaurants, a hotel bar and cigar lounge, a wine shop in the foyer, wine tastings, picnics, Törggelen in the vineyard, tennis courts, e-bike hire, five charging points and seminar rooms named after the founders, Rosa and Luis, used for seminars, weddings, family celebrations and car presentations. Priska Pföstl, who manages the spa, is a psychosocial counsellor and runs LEBENSGLÜCK coaching and retreats which are sold to external clients as well as to hotel guests. Stefan Pföstl runs the family's Weingut Pföstl with cellarmaster Georg Weger; the wines are poured in the houses, sold in the shop and distributed to third parties in Italy, Switzerland and beyond. The resort holds GSTC certification (HAVR240269), the South Tyrol Sustainability Label at Level 3 and a Vireo sustainability mark, and belongs to no hotel consortium. Commercially the front end is built and largely run by Brandnamic: a TYPO3 site on Brandnamic's own package, Brandnamic's eHotelier back office, its voucher app and its newsletter app, with tag delivery proxied through a Brandnamic first-party domain. Room bookings run through the HGV Booking Südtirol widget. There is no guest login, no member area and no repeat-guest programme anywhere in the estate.
