Palmschoß / Plose, Italia
FORESTIS Dolomites
A five-star adults-oriented luxury hotel at 1,770–1,800 m on the southern slope of the Plose, directly opposite the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage massifs above Brixen/Bressanone. It trades as FORESTIS S.r.l. (VAT IT02415780218, REA BZ-177350, share capital €300,000, CIN IT021011A1TM3LER8H) and reported FY2024 turnover of €18.6M with 123 employees. The site's history begins in 1912, when the Austrian monarchy commissioned architect Otto Wagner to build a tuberculosis sanatorium here on the strength of the Plose spring water, mountain air, sunshine hours and mild climate. War and Wagner's death cut the project down to a timber-and-stone retreat that served clergy and convalescents into the 1960s, after which it fell out of use. South Tyrolean hotelier Alois Hinteregger found the building on a walk in the 2000s, his family bought it, and it reopened as the Rosalpina Dolomites hotel in 2009/2010. In July 2020, after a comprehensive rebuild, it reopened as FORESTIS. The hotel is 62 suites: about 20 in the restored historic pavilion at ~50 m², 40 Tower Suites of ~55 m² across three sculptural timber towers modelled on tree trunks and joined to the historic wing by a partly underground passage, and penthouse suites of ~200 m² over two floors with private pool, sauna and open fireplace. Architecture by Armin Sader with the in-house interior team; the property holds Two Michelin Keys and sits in Small Luxury Hotels of the World's Considerate, Finest and Wellbeing collections, where it scores 4.9/5 across ~1,000 reviews. Alongside the hotel the same company operates the FORESTIS Villa — the restored 1912 doctors' residence, 1,200 m² over several floors with five bedrooms, private spa, garden and pool, let exclusively to a single party of up to ten with concierge, butler and private chef — and ODLES LODGE, four free-standing spruce and Swiss-pine chalets of 55–85 m² on its own domain and its own CIN. Non-room revenue is unusually developed for a house of this size. The spa is built on a four-elements/four-trees concept with indoor and outdoor stone pools, saunas, silence rooms, a Wyda (Celtic yoga) room, fitness and treatment rooms, and sells signature treatments and multi-day retreats. The main restaurant is led by executive chef Roland Lamprecht under a 'forest cuisine' philosophy. In mid-2025 the family opened YERA, a separate restaurant carved into the mountainside like a cave, seating guests around a central fire for a fixed 14-course seasonal menu with foraged ingredients and low-alcohol and fermented pairings by forest sommelier Hannes Unterberger; phones and cameras are locked away at reception, guests must be 14 or over, it runs Tuesday to Saturday, and an evening costs €650 per person including all food and drink. YERA has its own domain, its own reservations address and its own gift voucher. Ownership is a family succession in progress: Alois Hinteregger, who found and bought the site, has publicly handed the running of FORESTIS to his son Stefan and Stefan's wife Teresa Unterthiner. The family also owns Hotel Rosental, a three-star house in the village of Lüsen at 972 m, through a separate company. Commercially the four brands run on four different front ends. FORESTIS books through Sabre's SynXis engine on the Small Luxury Hotels chain code; Hotel Rosental books through HGV's Booking Südtirol on a different agency's platform; YERA takes reservations by email from a Webflow site; and gift vouchers for all of it are sold through a single incert shop. There is no guest login, no member area, no app and no published repeat-guest programme anywhere in the group.
