ADLER Spa Resorts & Retreats
ADLER Spa Resorts & Retreats is a seventh-generation family hotel group founded in 1810, when Josef Anton Sanoner acquired an inn in Ortisei known locally as 'Zum Adler'. It now operates seven five-star properties across three Italian regions: ADLER Spa Resort DOLOMITI (108 rooms) and ADLER Spa Resort BALANCE (30 junior suites), both in St. Ulrich/Ortisei in Val Gardena and sharing one 4,000 m² spa; ADLER Lodge ALPE on the Alpe di Siusi high plateau at 1,892 m (18 junior suites plus 12 private chalets with integrated saunas); ADLER Lodge RITTEN on the Renon plateau at 1,262 m (42 units — 20 junior suites, 20 chalets and 2 panorama suites); ADLER Spa Resort THERMAE at Bagno Vignoni in the Tuscan Val d'Orcia (90 superior and family rooms, built around the natural thermal spring); ADLER Spa Resort SICILIA at Siculiana on the Sicilian coast (74 junior suites plus 16 family suites); and AKI Family Resort PLOSE above Brixen (70 keys — 40 family suites, 22 superior family suites, 8 family homes), which opened in autumn 2024 as the group's first dedicated family house. Total 460 keys. The group trades through five separate Italian operating companies, all registered at Strada Rezia 7 in Ortisei: ADLER Dolomiti Srl (VAT IT01350320212, which runs both Val Gardena houses and the online shop), ADLER Thermae Srl (IT02329600213), ADLER Alpe & Ritten Srl (IT02808010215), ADLER Resort Sicilia SpA (IT06291381009) and Family Hotel Brixen Plose Srl (IT03100930217). ADLER Hotels Srl (group VAT IT01492830219) is the data controller named in the privacy policy. The sixth generation — brothers Andreas and Klaus Sanoner with their wives Verena and Karin — took over in the early 1980s and made ADLER the first spa resort in South Tyrol to offer bespoke wellness programmes. Expansion followed: THERMAE in 2004, BALANCE in 2008, the Tenuta Sanoner wine estate in Tuscany in 2016, Lodge ALPE in 2014, Lodge RITTEN in 2019, SICILIA in 2022 and AKI PLOSE in 2024. The seventh generation — Franziska, Moritz, Lukas and Maximilian Sanoner — joined around 2020 after business and hotel-management studies and stints at consulting firms, and led the Sicilia and Plose projects. The business is unusually broad for a hotel group of this size. Beyond rooms it sells spa treatments, ADLER Med holistic-medicine programmes (prevention and diagnostics, weight loss, stress management, thermal and thalasso therapy, detox) at BALANCE, THERMAE and SICILIA, private coachings, a manufactured ADLER Spa Active Cosmetics and food-supplement line sold through its own e-commerce store at adler-shop.com, and wine and olive oil from Tenuta Sanoner, whose AETOS label has been produced in Tuscany since 2009. The group holds EarthCheck certification (applied for in 2023, working with Terra Institute) and several houses are CasaClima/KlimaHaus certified. Commercially the estate runs on a Zeppelin Hotel Tech platform out of Merano, with Iperbooking as the booking engine, Incert for gift vouchers and a decade-old in-house points programme, the ADLER Friends Club, on its own separate legacy domain.
