What this index measures
Most hotel technology directories rank vendors by who pays for the placement, or by reviews the vendor collected from its own customers. This one ranks by deployments: how many of the 21 listed properties are recorded as running a given system, and how many of the 3,206 indexed rooms that covers. A vendor that sells well but appears nowhere in the index shows zero, and that is the honest answer for the properties covered here.
Each property page lists its full stack grouped by function — what runs the front desk, what takes the booking, what talks to the guest, what settles the money — with the role each vendor plays at that specific property and how confident the finding is. Each vendor page works in reverse: every category it serves, and the properties running it in each of those roles.
Coverage is deliberately narrow and deep rather than broad and thin. It concentrates on independent and family-owned properties in the Alpine and DACH region, where the stack is assembled from many small vendors and is far less documented than the chain market.
Questions
- What is the Hotel Tech Index?
- An open record of which software each hotel actually runs. 122 vendors across 42 categories, mapped to 21 indexed properties — not a review site and not a vendor listing, but a directory of deployments.
- Where does the data come from?
- Publicly observable sources: booking-engine payloads, page markup, tag containers, vendor case studies, company registries and press. Every property-to-vendor link carries a confidence value — confirmed, likely or unknown — and unknown is shown as unknown rather than guessed.
- How are vendors ranked?
- By how many listed properties are recorded as running them, and how many rooms that covers. Ranking is never sold, and there is no paid placement. A vendor with no recorded deployment shows zero, however large it is elsewhere.
- Are the revenue figures accurate?
- They are estimates unless marked otherwise. Most properties here are privately held and publish no accounts, so the figure is modelled from rooms, operating nights, occupancy and rate. Every figure states whether it is modelled, reported by the company or a third-party estimate, and is converted to US dollars at a stated rate and date.
- Can one vendor appear in several categories?
- Yes, and most do. The index records the role a vendor plays at each individual property, not just what the company sells. The same vendor can be the property management system at one hotel and only the booking engine at another.
- What is the difference between a main category and a category?
- A main category groups related functions — 8 of them cover the whole stack. Inside each sit the 42 canonical categories, one per function, which is what a vendor is actually listed under.
- How do I get a hotel or a vendor listed?
- Coverage expands as properties are researched. The methodology page explains what is recorded and how a listing is verified.
