Hafling / Avelengo, Italy

MIRAMONTI Boutique Hotel (MM Collection)

A 47-key five-star design boutique hotel at 1,260 m in Hafling / Avelengo, on the terrace above Meran, run by owners Klaus Alber and Carmen Kruselburger. It trades as Hotel Miramonti S.r.l. (VAT IT02733910216, REA BZ-201151), employs just under 60 people, and filed EUR 9.56M turnover with EUR 1.31M net profit for FY2024. The house opened in 1932 as a three-room Gasthof, was rebuilt in 1952 and entered the Michelin guide, became a Residence in 1984, a four-star in 1998, gained its glass Panorama Restaurant in 2005 and converted from residence to hotel in 2008. Carmen and Klaus have rebuilt it in stages since 2012 — the Owner's House extension, the Sky House cube set into the rock, the Onsen Pool, and in autumn 2024 the MONTI House: three interconnected timber houses by Meran designer Harry Thaler, 300 m from the hotel. The 47 units are published in six style families (Style Rooms, MONTI House, Owner's House, Lofts, Craftsmen's Homes, Explorer Rooms) at from-rates of EUR 200 to EUR 440 per person per night including breakfast. IT IS NO LONGER ONE BUILDING. 'The MM Collection' now spans four sites: the hotel itself; Villa Fluggi, a 1960s mid-century villa in Obermais/Meran once renovated by Monocle founder Tyler Brûlé and bought by the Albers in 2019, let exclusively for 2-10 people from EUR 1,000 a night; The Apartment, a 70 m² lakeside unit in Torri del Benaco on Lake Garda from EUR 479 a night on a seven-night minimum; and ROTWAND, a mountain restaurant at 1,818 m in the Meran 2000 ski and hiking area which opened on 28 November 2025, designed by Harry Thaler, with a kitchen concept by Christoph Huber of the Blaue Traube and what the house calls possibly the highest coffee roastery in the Alps. The priced non-room surface is unusually broad for a house this size: a Day Spa for non-residents at EUR 95 (Mon-Fri) or EUR 115 (weekends and holidays) per person, à-la-carte spa treatments at EUR 130-135 per 50 minutes, a EUR 95 degustation dinner and EUR 45 breakfast sold separately to day guests, in-house ski rental, a chargeable Land Rover Defender shuttle, a hire fleet consisting of a Fiat 500e cabrio at EUR 170/day and a 1977 Alfa Romeo Giulia at EUR 280/day, an 'MM Air Camping' package at EUR 470 per night for two, dog-sitting, a nanny service and a forest breakfast. There is also a real retail business. The MM Shop runs on Shopware with full customer accounts, both online and as a physical shop on the hotel's third floor, selling own-brand MONTI Coffee roasted at Rotwand, an MM Spitzengin, a bespoke Fueguia 1833 'Miramonti' perfume at EUR 318, a '10 years MM' porphyry board, MM textiles and tableware, alongside third-party design goods. Affiliations are numerous and consequential: Small Luxury Hotels of the World, The Aficionados, Pretty Hotels, Mr & Mrs Smith, Off Grid Hideaways, Welcome Beyond, Urlaubsarchitektur, Monocle, Condé Nast Traveller, Michelin Guide, Relax Guide. SLH has been inside Hilton Honors since 2024, so Hilton Honors points can already be earned and redeemed on these rooms when booked through Hilton channels — the room-rate loyalty currency at this property is effectively already spoken for. The commercial stack is fragmented across at least seven vendors: a ProcessWire site built by DH Webservice with design by Peppis Kreativstudio, a Seekda KUBE booking engine and Seekda Switch channel manager with Datatrans as PSP, ADDITIVE+ for both the newsletter and the voucher shop, S-MTS by MTS online for enquiry capture and online distribution, Shopware for retail, Superb for restaurant reservations, and a hand-built ProcessWire cart for spa treatments. Each holds a slice of the same guest. There is no member area, no guest app and no repeat-guest programme of the hotel's own.
